Prevention in dentistry: As a definition, means that an action of keeping away from an event or act to happen. We can also define it as an action to stop ill health before it begins. There are three types of prevention we can find, such as: - Primary prevention - Secondary prevention - Tertiary prevention Primary prevention: it means to take an action prior to a disease, which removes the possibility that a disease will even occur. it may be accomplished by measures designed to promote general health and well being or by specific protective measures. Secondary prevention: it is defined as an action that stops the progress of a disease and to prevent its complications. The individual is required to change, either to take some new action, or to cease an established action, or both, in order to lower the levels of risk.
